Hi, my name is Olivia Galletly and I am The Hungry Cook!
Food has been the centre of my world for as long as I can remember. All my fondest memories involve food, whether it be Dad’s pork sausages cooked in duck fat made every Christmas, his unbeatable hot cross buns at Easter, Mum’s gooey self-saucing chocolate pudding – even better the next morning, or her laborious, delicious sourdough, made every Saturday. Food has always been the focal point of any social gathering and this way of life has stayed with me.
The food I like to cook is usually, comforting, inexpensive and seasonal. The method of cooking I find most rewarding is using up what I have, creating new recipes based on seasonal vegetables, whatever meat I have in my freezer and any fresh herbs that I can get my hands on. Most of my recipes found here are adaptations of old classics I’ve loved and experimented with for years.
I live north of Auckland City (New Zealand) by the sea with my partner Joel and our dog Chloe. Before taking the leap and putting all my focus into recipe development, food styling and photography, I worked for 5 years as a studio artist and graphic designer for an advertising agency in Auckland City.
Any spare time I have is either spent in the kitchen experimenting and planning the next big feast (some of my best recipes have come to me in my dreams!), paddle boarding with my gorgeous golden retriever or drinking craft beer with my family and friends.
