Jazzing up the ham and cheese toast with ham off the bone, camembert cheese and sweet caramelised onions.


Serves 4


2 large red onions, sliced
1 knob of butter
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 sprig of thyme, leaves removed
8 slices of sourdough
2 tablespoons wholegrain mustard
4 slices of ham off the bone
180g camembert cheese, thinly sliced
40g of butter - only if frying


In a non-stick fry pan over a low heat, fry onions, brown sugar and thyme in butter until soft and caramelised. This will take roughly 30 minutes.

Place 4 pieces of sourdough on a chopping board, smear each piece with wholegrain mustard. Top with a piece of camembert, a slice of ham, caramelised onions and another slice of camembert. Finish with another piece of sourdough.

Place the sandwich between the two wire sandwich racks for the Kitchenaid Pro Line Toaster and clip the leaver to close. Toast on setting 6 or until golden brown. Best eaten staright away! 

Alternatively, Melt 1/2 the butter in a large non-stick fry pan. Place 2 toasties in the pan and fry on both sides until golden brown and cheese has melted. Add the other 1/2 of the butter and fry remaining toasties.
